First Integrated Solar Charging Station Installed by CESL in Ladakh

First Integrated Solar Charging Station Installed by CESL in Ladakh

The Ladakh region now has an electric vehicle charging station (Solar Charging Station) established by the government-owned company Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL).

CESL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) under the Ministry of Power, has established a first-of-its-kind solar-powered charging plaza for electric vehicles in the Ladakh region. The integrated carport in Leh was inaugurated by Ladakh Lieutenant Governor R K Mathur.

As part of the official fleet of the Leh administration, customised electric vehicles created by Hyundai Motor Company and made available through CES were also delivered.

Mahua Acharya, MD & CEO of CESL, said, “The EV carport is made up of 860 kW/hour lithium-ion battery storage and 100 kW solar PV panels. Electric buses can also be charged in car parking. Ten Hyundai Kona vehicles that have been particularly customised by CESL and equipped with battery warming technology enabling the cars to run in temperatures as low as minus 15 degrees.”

Further, he added, “We are confident that this project is the beginning of future upcoming green energy solutions in the steep terrain. We want to put in place programs for electric mobility, energy efficiency, and renewable energy that will significantly help protect the environment in Ladakh with ongoing support from the government.” 

Recently, Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) announced the list of selected agencies for the installation of 124 battery swapping stations, 352 standing chargers for electric two and three-wheelers as well as 1294 standing DC fast chargers for electric four-wheelers.

Additionally, State-controlled Convergence Energy Services Ltd. (CESL) invited EoI (Expression of Interest) for the financing of electric vehicles across India. The Expression of Interest (EOI) document was for the empanelment of Financial Institutions (FI), such as NBFCs and Scheduled Banks, to finance electric vehicles facilitated by Convergence Energy Services Ltd. (CESL) in partnership with various state governments across India.
