Mercedes-Benz VISION EQXX Runs 1,000 Km on Single Battery Charge

Mercedes-Benz VISION EQXX Runs 1,000 Km on Single Battery Charge

The VISION EQXX from German automaker Mercedes-Benz has run more than 1000km (621 miles) in Europe to demonstrate its range and efficiency in a single battery charge. The new electric vehicle covered the distance from Sindelfingen to Cassis on the Côte d’Azur through regular road speeds that included fast driving and also limiting speeds.

As per the company, VISION EQXX was still left with 15% charge in the battery on arrival which means that it could still travel 140 kilometers (87 miles). The travel finds average consumption of VISION EQXX at 8.7 kWh per 100 kilometers.

Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG said “It underpins our strategic aim to lead in electric. The company calls the performance a milestone development. VISION EQXX has carbon-fiber-sugar composite material in the upper part of its battery. The rear floor system is crafted in aluminum. The system is considerably lighter and the structural component has reasonable gaps. This has helped it to be at least 20% lighter.

EQXX Breaks the 1000 Km barrier

The battery system measures 200 x 126 x 11 cm and it’s 50% less in volume plus 30% lighter. It uses 900V technology, weighs 1,091 lbs and can be employed in a compact vehicle. The battery has the same amount of energy as that of the battery of an EQS. The storage unit is designed for 100kWh function. Mercedes-Benz says that experts from Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team helped develop the electric drive.

The auto company says that VISION EQXX can regenerate its energy reserves or recover the braking energy. The electric vehicle can also be charged to an extent through a fixed solar roof. There are 117 solar cells to feed the 12-volt battery meant for auxiliary consumers in VISION EQXX. Navigation system is an off the cuff example. Solar power can help add to EV’s range by 25 km on a journey of 1,000 kilometers.

The company informs that VISION EQXX has minimal heat wastage and adequate passive cooling. It has a cooling plate in the underbody that increases the drive range of the electric vehicle by another 20km.
