Electric vehicle (EV) startup Zypp has announced that it has made its foray in battery swapping for EVs. The firm has installed 15 battery swapping stations in Gurugram. As per a company release, the users can use the electric scooter ride-sharing app Zypp to opt for a battery swap option and avail a swap within 3 minutes and continue to ride e-bikes for another 75 km without breaking.

Commenting on the latest development, Rashi Agarwal, Co-Founder of Zypp said, “at Zypp, we are driven with a vision of enabling greener and futuristic means of everyday commute through Zypp e-scooters serving the delivery segment who have a 100-120 km running requirement daily.”

Further adding that the firm has installed 20 battery swapping stations across key hot-spots in Gurugram. “Through battery swapping, users can hit the roads in just three minutes for another 75 kms. We are affirmative that the same would help more users take on electric mobility, especially with the growing emphasis on solo commuting options, delivery segment and look forward to an affirmative response.”

Fitted with IoT locks and lithium-ion batteries, Zypp e-bikes can also be hired remotely via the application. Upon completion of the trip, users need to park these e-scooters in the Zypp parking points only which ensures complete safety of these scooters at all times, informed the release.

Recently, a new report had shown that due to increased run-time and improved remunerative prospects for shared e-mobility drivers, the demand for electric vehicle (EV) battery swapping is rising in India.

In February, eyeing opportunities in the wake of disruption expected from EVs, oil major Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) had launched an ‘e-drive initiative’ an electric three-wheeler mobility model. Partnering with electric vehicle-maker Kinetic Green Energy and Power Solutions and IIT Madras for technology support, the public sector oil marketing giant brought an on-stream supply of swappable li-ion batteries at its retail outlets in Kochi and Lucknow in the first phase for electric three-wheelers.
