SJVN has awarded its 375 MW/1.5 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Uttar Pradesh to Gujarat-based Patel Infrastructure and Uttar Pradesh-based Enerica, according to tender results. It issued the tender for this project in February and declared the results after four months.

Patel Infrastructure secured 187.5 MW/750 MWh at ₹3,59,000 per MW/month, while Enerica Infra (EnerGrid) won a similar capacity at a slightly higher tariff of ₹3,59,999 per MW/month. The standalone BESS tender, issued in February under a build-own-operate (BOO) model, attracted bids from 18 firms. The winning tariff fell to ₹3,59,000/MW/month for a single four-hour cycle, with viability gap funding (VGF) support of up to ₹2.7 million per MWh or 30% of capital cost, whichever is lower.

SJVN ‘s latest BESS tender was awarded at one of the lowest bids seen in the 4-hour BESS tenders. A year ago, the L1 tariff for a two-hour, two-cycle BESS stood at ₹3.72 lakh/MW/month, which dropped to ₹2.37 lakh/MW/month with VGF support. At the time, it seemed like the floor. But a year later, the latest tender has brought 4-hour, 1-cycle BESS clearing at ₹3.59 lakh/MW/month. The project would ensure the availability of the energy storage facility to the Buying Entity, i.e., Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL).

Previous Tenders: A Brief Comparison

The BESS tariff in Uttar Pradesh is lower than Bihar’s 125 MW/500 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) tender, which was awarded by Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd (BSPGCL). That tender was awarded at ₹4.44 lakh/MW/Month. According to tender results, Barbrik Projects, Saatvik Green Energy, Kundan Green Energy, Prostarm Info Systems, Hindustan Thermal Project (Hindustan Power), and Suryam International were selected as the winning bidders.

In a separate tender, NHPC recently finalised the results of its 500 MW/1,000 MWh BESS tender in Andhra Pradesh (Tranche II), awarding contracts to ACME Solar and Patel Infrastructure. ACME Solar secured two projects: a 225 MW/450 MWh system at a tariff of ₹2.22 lakh per MW per month near the Ghani substation, and a 50 MW/100 MWh system at ₹2.10 lakh per MW per month near the Kuppam substation. Whereas, Patel Infrastructure was awarded a 225 MW/450 MWh project at ₹2,08,000 per MW per month for development at the Jammalamadugu substation.
