July 4: Green Stocks Count On News Flow, Trade Deal

Like much of the rest of the market, green energy stocks moved based on hard news flows, even as the broader market holds its breath for an update on the US-India trade deal. As we have said earlier, while a blockbuster deal will hardly pass muster due to impending elections and other issues, a small deal that is good enough to keep punitive US tariffs at bay will be welcomed by the markets.

For Green stocks, in particular, manufacturers will gain the most.

KPI Green was the beneficiary of strong news flow today, rising on the back of a large order win of 100 MW. The news helped it arrest the slide that had set in this week, and the firm will look ahead to a better week. Waaree Energies continued to be roiled by differing opinions on the impact of a deal, considering its high dependence on the US market. Even though it has manufacturing operations there which increasingly insulate it from the worst of the impact, the stakes are sufficiently high to mark out the firm for a serious jump should things pan out positively.

EPC firms will definitely be on the lens of many investors as news on June capacity additions come in, and probably, Q1 numbers as well. But what investors will watch out for is margins, which have started feeling the pressure of increased competition of late. So much to look forward to next week. Keep your fingers crossed!
