Simple Energy, C4V will Collaborate to Manufacture Lithium-ion Cells in India

Bengaluru based electric two-wheeler maker Simple Energy has said that it has signed an initial pact with the US-based battery technology firm C4V (Charge CCCV) to establish a Lithium-ion cell manufacturing ecosystem in India. The electric vehicle sector is presently based around lithium-ion battery cells.

Simple Energy stated that the cell manufacturing ecosystem will be a build-in India initiative. Its strategic partnership with C4V is meant to offer lithium ion batteries with greater safety, higher energy density than Lithium Ferro Phosphate batteries, faster charging and longer life cycle based on the patented technology of C4V.

Simple Energy had launched its maiden electric scooter in August 2021 but is yet to start delivery in the market. The lithium-ion cell development and manufacturing facilities will come up in the Dharmapuri plant of Simple Energy in Tamil Nadu. The firm has announced ambitious plans to produce well over a million scooters annually by 2026. It hopes to sell 100,000 Simple One scooters in FY 23.

Shreshth Mishra, Co-Founder, Simple Energy, said, “By partnering with C4V, we will consolidate cell supply, which is a vital component for us. This strategy also makes us more self-reliant and reduces our dependency on imports.” He also said that in-house development of cell technology will reduce costs and dependency on rare earth materials.

Kuldeep Gupta, Vice President (Strategic Partnership), C4V informed, “C4V is looking forward to this strategic collaboration, thereby supporting the development of the EV industry in India.” He said that the oil prices are skyrocketing and the heat is already being felt in the market. He added that empowering local manufacturing will not only reduce the burden of import duties but also ensure the timely supply of quality batteries in the EV space, boosting the confidence of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in the electric mobility market.

The official statement of the company informs that C4V is toiling to stabilize India’s comprehensive domestic supply chain necessary to produce the most advanced Lithium-ion battery technology which powers Simple Energy’s upcoming two-wheeler and four-wheeler.

C4V is also about to commission its iM3NY Gigafactory in New York. The production is expected to begin in the next few months.
