Over 3K E-Buses Will Operate In India In Next 2 Years Under Fame-ll Delhi Reports Highest Penetration Of Electric Buses In India

Over the next two years, more than 3,000 additional electric buses will operate throughout the cities of India as part of the FAME-II program. Heavy Industries Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey claims that there are currently 3.049 electric buses operating on Indian roadways. Recently, the minister announced the program’s planned departure of 175 e-buses for Gujarat (75) and Karnataka (100). He was in town to attend a symposium on Industry 4.0. Speaking outside the convention, Pandey anticipated that there will be over 3,000 more buses in two years.

To promote electric mobility in the nation, the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India Phase II (FAME India Phase II) initiative was approved in 2019. It is intended to support 10 lakh electric two-wheelers, 5 lakh electric three-wheelers, 55,000 electric four-wheelers, and 7,000 electric buses under the program. He added that two businesses received notifications from the ministry requesting information about the parts used in their electric vehicles and whether they were manufactured locally or not because the businesses had submitted claims for subsidies under the Rs 10,000 crore FAME-II initiative.

If it is discovered that the two electric car manufacturers did not adhere to the scheme’s demand for localization, the government will take appropriate action, the minister added. However, he kept the identities of the corporations a secret. An official from the ministry claimed that Hero Electric and Okinawa have both received notices.

“We have sought their reply on the notices. We have asked for some details,” Pandey said, adding the government provides subsidies based on certain conditions that the EV makers have to meet under the scheme and one of the conditions is local production of components. “If they will be found violative of those provisions, then we will take steps as per that policy (scheme). If somebody will not follow the government norms, then we will take action against them,” he added.
