Supernap Launches Thailand’s First Solar Project to Power Data Center

Thailand-based data center, Supernap has launched its first solar project to power its data center, to further establish its position as an environment friendly colocation provider in Thailand.

To keep up with the ongoing production of data and to fulfill the green objectives of global environmental preservation, data centers must prioritise lowering environmental effects by providing maximum energy efficiency and renewable energy, given that they consume electricity in large volumes.

“Supernap (Thailand) stance has always been being the leader in the industry of the region,” said Yap Jin Yi, the firm’s Chief Executive Officer, at the launching ceremony the project. “Being the most environmentally friendly data center and using renewable energy to power our IT load is another step we can take to solidify our position as leaders in Thailand’s digital infrastructure,” he added.

Adding renewable energy to an energy-efficient infrastructure is the key to data center sustainability, he continued, as data centers are significant consumers of power and electricity is their primary operating expense.

Supernap (Thailand) chose WHA Utilities and Power Plc. (WHAUP) for full turnkey solution to meet the firm’s business sustainability target for installing the solar power system to supply green energy to the data center.

“Compared to other data centers in Southeast Asia, Supernap (Thailand) has superior service capabilities. Being a solar power customer for Supernap (Thailand) solidifies WHAUP’s knowledge and reputation as one of the top service providers of solar power systems in Thailand, according to Somkiat Masunthasuwun, CEO of WHA Utilities and Power Plc.

Earlier, in Thailand, Siam Cement Group (SCG) come up with a comprehensive investment plan for the coming five years. The key feature this time is that it has a special focus on the environmental aspect of the businesses of SCG and the company looks to strive faster towards the employment of renewable energy to shift the present business style of SCG to a ‘circular’ one.
