Neoen, a renewable energy production company, launched the construction of its first three assets in Italy in December 2023. These three solar farms, with a combined capacity of 24.7 MWp, are located in Lombardy (8 MWp and 7.6 MWp), and Marche (9.1 MWp). The contract for their construction has been awarded to solar EPC system provider Intec Energy Solutions, Neoen said in a press release.

The commissioning of the solar plants is scheduled for early 2025. Once completed, they will prevent the emission of around 37,000 tonnes of CO2 a year and are expected to generate enough electricity to power over 9,000 homes, said a press release by the company.

Italy’s power grid operator TERNA has also apprised that the country’s power production through the means of solar and wind touched a record high last year. This was made possible because the installations for renewable power generation were doubled in the last year. Solar panel generation rose to 30.6 Terawatt hours (TWh) while wind farms produced 23.4 TWh, Terna added. With this goal amid bottlenecks to establish more solar and wind farms, Italy also has goals to generate nearly two-thirds of its electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030, Italy’s energy ministry has said.

Apart from this project, Neoen has also been awarded the tender of 104.4 MWp of solar projects in France. The four projects range from 14.4 to 30 MWp. The plants are expected to be commissioned between 2025 and 2028. Once starts functioning, the four photovoltaic power plants will produce the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of at least 50,000 people in France.

Neoen has also announced the official start of construction of the Isbillen Power Reserve battery on Sweden, the country’s biggest. With a capacity of 93.9 MW / 93.9 MWh, it will be the largest battery in the Nordics and it is expected to be fully operational in the first semester of 2025
