L&T to Develop 280 MW Worth Solar Projects in Rajasthan and Gujarat

Engineering conglomerate Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced that the company has got an order to develop a 245MW solar power project in Rajasthan. It has also received another order to build 35 MW (AC) photovoltaic capacity with 57MWh battery energy storage system in Gujarat. The project will be based in the Kutch district.

Larsen & Toubro is India’s top multinational EPC solutions provider and it has received few notable orders overseas for transmission and distribution of power. The company has bagged orders in West Asia for the supply and construction of shunt reactors substations on a turnkey basis.

These shunt reactors will be of 132kV that will add to the electricity infrastructure of Dubai. The infrastructure is expected to provide higher standards of power availability, reliability and efficiency.

Clean Energy Quest of L&T

Recently, L&T has reaffirmed its commitment to become a net-zero company by 2035 and has said that it’s working on a four-pronged strategy on clean energy consumption.

The company says that it has special focus on the environment, social and governance (ESG) parameters that includes climate stewardship, circular economy, green offerings, green supply chain, employee welfare, social welfare, workforce health and safety.

S N Subrahmanyan, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of L&T, says, “L&T is committed to integrating ESG goals with business targets. L&T has decided on a four-pronged carbon neutrality approach which involves improving energy efficiency, increasing the share of using eco-friendly fuels, spiking up the use of renewables and offsetting the remaining greenhouse gas emissions by planting trees.”

In the recent past, L&T has been successful in decarbonizing its processes in many ways. The company has reduced its greenhouse gases emission intensity by 4.5% in 2021 in comparison to 2016. It’s sourcing more than 10 per cent of the energy in 2016. The campuses of L&T are lightened with 21.2 million units from wind powered turbines.

The company said that it harnessed 2.6 million units of solar energy in its campuses last year. And all the concerted efforts have helped avoid 35,000 tonne CO2 emissions.
