Rajasthan Solar Association (RSA) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH have signed an agreement for skill development in the solar segment, according to media reports.

RSA was set up under the Rajasthan Non-Trading Companies Act 1960 for the promotion of Indian solar power industry. RSA members include top international & national companies comprising project developers, EPC companies, module manufacturers, equipment manufacturers, small & medium enterprises and its service providers.

The present project, part of the Indo German Vocational Education and Training Program (IGVET), will be carried out through the help of workshops and training programmes which will be conceived and implemented by the professionals.

IGVET under the GIZ GmbH is a joint initiative of the Indian Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The project pilots cooperative vocational education and training in clusters. It supports six clusters: 1. Automotive components cluster in Aurangabad, Maharashtra; 2. Electronics cluster in Bengaluru, Karnataka; 3. Energy efficient construction cluster in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan; 4. Solar energy cluster in Pune, Maharashtra; 5. Retail cluster in Mumbai, Maharashtra; 6. Life sciences cluster in Hyderabad, Telangana.

Implemented by GIZ, the program aims at improving the skills of India’s labour force. The program is inspired by the German dual system of training, which emphasizes the active role of the private sector in providing high quality, on-the-job training opportunities.

RSA in association with the GIZ has already designed a series of initiatives in the coming years for the skill development in the solar segment.

Suman Kumar and Sunil Bansal, president and general secretary of RSA appraised GIZ executives regarding the RSA’s initiative to start a skill development institute along with a facilitation centre for the solar industry stakeholders at Bap in Jodhpur with the help of the state government, reports news agency TNN.

RSA works closely with national solar federations, international solar associations, multilateral agencies and other industry organisations to contribute to pan-India issues of the solar sector.
