ABB India, Welspun Energy reach 700MW of installed solar PV in India

ABB India

Supplier of solar photovoltaic (PV) inverters ABB and developer Welspun Energy today announced that together they have installed about 700 MW of solar photovoltaic projects across several states in India.  It includes a key project of 52 MW on PPP (pubic-private partnership) for Maharashtra State Generation Company at Baramati.

By setting up large scale solar capacities across the country we are supporting India’s developmental needs through clean energy. This is essential if we want to power our industries sustainably and meet our renewable energy targets. We chose ABB as a bankable partner owing to its leadership in inverter technology, strong local presence and a robust service network which has helped us to synchronize our plants in a very short time, whilst meeting our robust quality standards,” said Vineet Mittal, Managing Director, Welspun Energy.ABB offers quality, reliability, efficiency and a well entrenched network, all of which are critical to minimizing the long-term risks of solar installations.”

The company in a statement said that over half the 5.1 GW inverters installed in India are from ABB. They are critical for maximizing the conversion of the DC (direct current) power captured by solar panels to electricity in a usable format that can be connected to the grid.  ABB has supplied its PVS800 central inverters to Welspun Energy’s solar projects.

We look forward to a continuing collaboration with forward looking customers such as Welspun Energy, who are the pioneers in the clean energy space in the country. We are privileged to be associated with this key customer,” said Sanjeev Sharma, Managing Director, ABB in India. “India and solar power are core focus areas in ABB’s global next level strategy. Our expertise and attention to developing local engineering competence positions us well to partner India through Welspun Energy in its growth ambitions. We look forward to contributing to initiatives such as Make in India, power to all and 100 GW of solar power by 2022.”

ABB’s central inverters range from 100 kW to 2,000 kW and are optimized for cost-efficient multi-megawatt power plants. ABB recently introduced 1500 VDC technology for solar inverters which helps to reduce overall CAPEX and OPEX for solar PV installations.
