Tata Power, NAREDCO Collaborate To Set Up 5000 EV Charging Stations in Mumbai

National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) – one of the premier bodies of real estate in India – and Tata Power have announced a collaboration to set up 5000 electric vehicles’ charging stations in Mumbai. The charging stations will come up in the properties or residences of the developers who are members of NAREDCO.

The joint initiative was signed in the presence of Aaditya Thackeray, Minister of Tourism and Environment, Maharashtra Government. The official statement of the players reveals that Tata Power will offer a comprehensive charging solution for electric vehicles which will include installation, maintenance and up-gradation of the chargers as and when needed. The partnership will help Maharashtra to arrest carbon emissions and accelerate electric vehicles’ adoption in the state.

Under the collaboration, the electric vehicle owners of NAREDCO’s member developers’ properties can avail the charging facilities. Tata Power’s EZ Charge mobile app will allow EV users 24×7 access to EV charging, monitoring, and e-payments.

Aaditya Thackeray said on the initiative, “Whenever there is talk of EV (electric vehicle) adoption, I’m often asked about the infrastructure of charging stations; it’s one of the biggest issues with charging infrastructure facilities.” He was deliberating at The Real Estate Forum 2022 which was organised by NAREDCO.

Praveer Sinha, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Tata Power, said, “We are grateful to the Government of Maharashtra for enabling Tata Power’s and NAREDCO collaboration to accelerate the expansion of EV charging infrastructure across the state. The move will put an efficient electric vehicle ecosystem closer to the end-user, allowing us to contribute to the national aim of a rapid transition to green mobility.”

Depending on the nature and construction of the premises, the EV charging stations will be marked as public or semi-public facilities. The objective is to encourage commuters to adopt electric vehicles and help those who already own EVs.

Recently, the Maharashtra Government had postponed the implementation of its Electric Vehicle Policy by one year due to unavailability of adequate charging stations in the state. Now the policy will be implemented from April 1, 2023.

As far as Tata Power is concerned the company has now entered into all segments of the eco-system that promotes EV charging – households charging, workplace charging, captive charging and public charging.
