Sunfuel Electric comes up with 120 KW ‘superchargers’

Sunfuel Electric has announced the launching of a new charging technology for electric vehicles at its factory in Pune in order to ease the long travels on the highways for EV drivers. Sunfuel has unveiled the new ‘ExpressMiles’ highway charging service and the first of the novel EV chargers will be installed on the Kalka-Shimla highway. The installation will take next month in Himachal Pradesh. The facility will offer charging speeds of up to 120kW.

Sunfuel Electric is an Indian start-up in the electric vehicle ecosystem. The company deals largely in the destination charging sub-segment. According to the official statement of Sunfuel, the ExpressMiles charging service will be capable of charging a wide range of electric car models. The charging will be done at manufacturer-specified charging rate in quick time.

Sunfuel says that it wants to reshape the charging infrastructure in the Sunfuel country. It maintains that its new 120 KW fast chargers are especially meant for high end electric vehicles’ drivers who go on longer trips.

In the present times, only expensive or high end electric vehicles come with battery packs that are compatible with 120 KW charging facilities. This means that EV models like Mercedes-Benz EQC, BMW iX, Audi e-Tron, e-Tron GT, Porsche Taycan and Jaguar iPace will find better use of Sunfuel Electric charging stations on the highways.

Sunfuel says that this doesn’t mean that budget-end EVs couldn’t make use of ExpressMiles. The company also aims at heightening the EV charging infrastructure across India. It wants to improve EV charging facilities presence within the Indian cities also by installing 70 DC fast chargers in near future.

In November, 2022, Sunfuel partnered with Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG) under which it will set up fast charging facilities in the properties of IHG in India. A month later, the company also tied up with Radisson Hotel Group by signing an MoU to develop charging facilities in its properties. Sunfuel has made a similar arrangement with Club Mahindra.
