Shell Targets Installing 10,000 Charging Stations Across India By 2030

Recently, the multinational oil corporation Shell unveiled its first electric vehicle (EV) chargers for India’s two- and four-wheeled vehicle markets. The initial market for Shell chargers in India are two wheelers.

Shell announced plans to install more than 10,000 charging stations across India by 2030. The Shell Recharge chargers are powered entirely by green energy.

Shell intends to install charging stations in Bengaluru’s petrol stations located in Yeshwantpur, Marathalli, Old Madras Road, Brookefield, and Kanakpura during the initial phase of its debut. Beyond its current retail markets in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Assam, and Andhra Pradesh, the company wants to develop its EV charging infrastructure. At on-the-go venues like Shell gas stations, independent EV hubs, home charging stations, and destination locations, Shell will offer specialised charging options. The company will use direct-current (DC) fast chargers with a 100 kilowatt (KW) or higher rating for on-the-go and standalone EV hubs to enable quick charging and the shortest dwell time.

These chargers will be controlled by customers using the “Shell Recharge India app,” which is accessible on both the Android and iOS operating systems. Customers may use the app to find the closest accessible charger, choose a charging method (by unit, time, or percentage), and then make speedy payments for a hassle-free, dependable EV charging experience.

Additionally, customers get real-time access to their charging status. Shell offers a wide variety of hardware solutions for various situations, such as those centered on:

  • Strategy for configuring cable connectors and simultaneous charging to maximize the use of electric vehicle supply equipment and boost investment effectiveness
  • Modular designs allow for enhancements
  • Higher uptime is ensured by excellence in operation and reliability

The move from Shell comes at an important time for India’s EV ecosystem, with charging anxiety fast replacing range anxiety as the first cohort of EV owners discover issues and limitations with the existing networks.
