Audi, the German luxury car manufacturer, today inaugurated an ultra-fast charging station in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai. Conceptualized and developed in collaboration with ChargeZone, the ultra-fast charger boasts a total capacity of 450kW, to deliver 360kW of power to an electric vehicle and is enabled by a 500 amps liquid-cooled gun to ensure high performance and efficiency.

The Audi Q8 55 e-tron with a 114 kWh battery (which the firm claims as the largest battery on a passenger vehicle in India) can charge from 20% to 80% in 26 minutes.

E-tron hub

The ultra-fast charging ‘e-tron hub’ is completely powered by green energy and has a solar roof that supports the functioning of peripheral electrical requirements including lighting the ‘e-tron hub’.

Commenting on the occasion, Alexander von Waldenburg-Dresel, Senior Director, Sales Region Overseas, Audi AG, said, “Setting up India’s fastest EV charger in Mumbai is a great feat and reflects the evolution of EVs in the country. This fast charger will ensure that customers in the city of Mumbai will benefit from convenient, on-the-go charging.”

Balbir Singh Dhillon, Head of Audi India said, “The inauguration of India’s first, ultra-fast charging station by Audi India is a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to develop a comprehensive electric vehicle ecosystem for our valued customers. The ultra-fast charging ‘e-tron hub’ is located in the heart of Mumbai – Bandra Kurla Complex, which is accessible to a large number of electric vehicle owners.” He added, “The rapid charging infrastructure is pivotal in alleviating concerns about range limitations, ensuring a seamless experience and considerably less charging time.”

The ultra-fast charging station features high-powered guns that allow for fast charging. In addition, premium coffee vouchers are available for e-tron owners who charge their e-tron at the hub. The ultra-fast charging ‘e-tron hub’ features a lounge for e-tron owners to relax in while their car is being charged.

The hub will be staffed with trained personnel, readily available to offer any necessary assistance. Audi e-tron owners can access information about the ultra-fast charging ‘e-tron hub’ via their ‘myAudi Connect’ App, making it easy to navigate to the location.

Kartikey Hariyani, Founder & CEO, CHARGE ZONE added, “With an increased growth of electric cars in India, it is clearly evident that an integrated approach of technology, upstream renewable energy, suitable locations are a must for providing a seamless experience to the EV users.”

Earlier this year, Audi India introduced ‘Charge my Audi’ on the myAudiConnect app – a one-stop solution that gives Audi e-tron customers access to multiple electric vehicle charging partners, all on one app. ‘Charge my Audi’ is an industry-first initiative that enhances convenience for customers. The application is powered by the Numocity Technologies eMSP roaming solution, currently includes five charging partners – Aargo EV Smart, Charge Zone, Relux Electric, LionCharge and Zeon Charging. Audi e-tron customers benefit from complimentary charging across the network (except on Zeon charging) till March 2024. Currently, 1,000+ charge points are available to Audi e-tron owners on ‘Charge my Audi’ with more to be added over the next few months.

Audi India currently has a luxury EV portfolio with six electric cars in India – Audi Q8 50 e-tron, Audi Q8 55 e-tron, Audi Q8 Sportback 50 e-tron, Audi Q8 Sportback 55 e-tron, Audi e-tron GT and Audi RS e-tron GT.

Global key players delving in solar-powered EV charging stations are Envision Solar, Tesla, SolarEdge Technologies, SunPower, EVBox, ChargePoint, PairTree, PowerFlex, iSun, KEBA, and EmPower Solar.

Last year, Mumbai got an electric vehicle charging station fully powered by solar power panels.
