MP: Powergrid Floats 20 MWh BESS Tender At Solar Plant By Chitrika Grover/ Updated On Mon, May 19th, 2025 Highlights : Powergrid has invited bids until June 16, 2025 MP: Powergrid Floats 20 MWh BESS Tender At Solar Plant State-run Powergrid Corporation of India has issued a tender for the development of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), designated as Package BESS-01. The 20 MWh (5 MWh x 4 hours) system will be co-located with an existing 85 MW solar PV plant at Nagda, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Bids are invited until June 16, 2025. The BESS is designed for four hours of energy storage and will be integrated into the grid via the existing Inverter Duty Transformer (IDT) of the solar plant, using a bidirectional inverter and DC-DC coupler converters. The project also includes 11 years of comprehensive annual maintenance post-commissioning, including a one-year defect liability period. Charging will be done using solar energy, with discharging to the grid through the existing IDT. Scope and Performance Targets The scope of work includes land preparation and integration with the existing infrastructure. Approximately 1,000 square meters of land has been earmarked for the BESS at the Nagda solar site. According to the tender, “Taking into consideration capacity degradation, the contractor is expected to maintain the BESS such that, once fully charged, it shall be capable of delivering energy at or above the ‘Guaranteed Dispatchable Capacity’ at the Point of Connection (PoC), i.e., the connection point to the existing inverter, throughout the contract period.” Annual Minimum Dispatchable Capacity Targets specified by Powergrid are as follows: GE Vernova Wins Powergrid EHV Gear Order For Renewable Energy Corridors Also Read Year 1: 97.5% Powergrid Commissions 85 MW Solar Plant In Madhya Pradesh Also Read Year 2: 95.0% Year 3: 92.5% Year 4: 90.0% PowerGrid Wins Bid For Andhra Pradesh Transmission Project Also Read Year 5: 87.5% Year 6: 85.0% Year 7: 82.5% Year 8: 80.0% Year 9: 77.5% Year 10: 75.0% Year 11: 72.5% Year 12: 70.0% Technical Requirements for Battery Manufacturers The tender specifies that the battery manufacturer must have supplied at least 10 MWh of batteries for stationary grid applications in any one calendar year during the last three years. Additionally, the batteries offered must be based on the same technology proposed in the bid and must have been in satisfactory operation as of the Notice of Award (NOA) date.
