With the launch of its subsidiary, Lord’s Automative Private Limited, the firm ventured into the green mobility business in the year 2020. Lords Automotive manufactures environmentally friendly electric scooters under the name “Lords Zoom”.

The company has so far partnered with 252+ dealers in 22 States, and sold over 10000 EVs in India. In the future, the company plans to install GPS-enabled battery-swapping stations across India. In addition, the firm has plans to launch e-bikes and e-vintage cars soon.

Sachidanand Upadhyay, the Founder of Lord’s Mark Industries Pvt Ltd., holds an engineering degree from IME Mumbai and has extensive experience in marketing and sales. In an interview with SaurEnergy, he provided insights into the solar market and e-mobility industry and the company’s position in these sectors.

How do you view the domestic solar market in general?

Sachidanand Upadhyay: More than just competition, there is a need for collaborative efforts in the industry to reduce dependency on imports. India has a huge opportunity to tap its resources, introduce cutting-edge technology, and leverage its geological advantage to become a global manufacturing hub for the solar energy market.

How do you see the solar trends in 2023?

SU: According to a recent research forecast from 2022 to 2026, India’s solar power market size is expected to grow by USD 240.42 billion at a CAGR of 35.24%. Low carbon emissions from renewable sources, combined with growing environmental concerns, and is driving the adoption of renewable energy sources. The renewable energy market size will observe an appreciable gain on account of escalating concerns about soaring carbon emissions. Besides, the government’s regulation on carbon emissions will complement the rising trend for consumerism of sustainable products. Key energy sources, including wind energy, solar energy and geothermal energy will remain pivotal to robust growth.

What products does Lord’s Mark offer? How do they fare against similar products in the market?

SU: Our solar-based products and appliances promote a sustainable environment by reducing the dependency on traditional energy resources. Our product offerings include off-grid solar plants, on-grid solar plants, solar home lighting systems, solar street lighting systems, RMS-based solar street lights, LED lights of all types, and other innovative products.

Our most popular product is our smart solar street lighting system. In addition, we are also the market leader in EPC for solar roof-top products.

Speaking of competition, we have invested heavily in R&D in a bid to add more innovation to our existing product line.

E-scooters have struck a chord with the Indian consumer. What is Lord’s Mark standing in the E-scooter business? What are the top models offered by the firm?

SU: Lord’s Automotive Pvt Ltd. is a kingpin in the Indian manufacturing industry of avant-grade eco-friendly two-wheelers and three-wheelers. The vehicles designed by the brand are an emblem of sustainability, cost efficiency, energy intelligence, exemplary quality and comfort. The exclusive products are establishing Lord’s Automotive as a reliable Indian brand that delivers the best electric vehicles to the nation with strong after-sales service and spare support. The journey began in February 2020 to counter the problem of pollution and spread a manufacturing revolution to tackle the current environmental degradation. The brand started with a brief of providing every Indian with an affordable electric vehicle so that every individual can play their part in conserving nature.

E-scooter “Zoom” and “Zoom Plus” and E-rickshaw “Devam King” and E-loader “Devam Samrat”

The company has talked about e-vintage cars. Please give a brief account of that.

SU: Though it’s vintage, it’s never out of fashion. So, to give a new twist to this angle we are making E-Vintage cars. With classy looks and a modern approach, our cars can be used for universities, events, airports, tourist places, etc.

What are the new options the company is going to launch in the near future?

SU: Our forthcoming projects include a high-speed electric two-wheeler, a loader/cargo, and an L5 auto/loader to meet the various demands of our country for last-mile connectivity.

Has the company set up any charging stations so far? What are future goals on that front?

SU: We will be setting up charging stations in various states. We are in talks with various state governments. All the technical work and R&D have been completed; hopefully, by the year’s end, you will be able to see the Lord’s Auto’s charging stations near you.

Where are your manufacturing units situated for various products?

SU: Currently, our manufacturing units are located in Silvassa, Lucknow, Gurgaon/Faridabad and upcoming units will soon be open in AP/Telangana, West Bengal and Rajasthan.

What is your current capacity and what are your future goals in terms of capacity?

SU: Lord’s Auto has a monthly production capacity of 2000 electric rickshaws, electric scooters, and e-loaders among the products available, with prices ranging from Rs. 48000/- to Rs. 175000/-.

Our aim for the upcoming financial year is to double our current sales achievements. With our in-house R&D, we are optimistic that our profits will increase. Furthermore, our aim is to be a technology provider to other companies so that new, innovative technology can benefit every part of the country and our countrymen. It will further enable us to increase our network and our income.

Who are your major clients?

SU: Lord’s Mark Industries has entered the solar-based lighting space and has bagged a street lighting contract from the Bihar government. Bihar is the first state to implement the world’s largest solar-based lighting project, which will be implemented through BREDA (Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency). In addition, we have tied up with the world’s largest electronics conglomerate Philips to implement the project that will cover remote parts of Bihar.

Besides, with our EV business, we have so far partnered with 252+ dealers in 22 states and sold more than 10000 EVs in India. In addition, we will soon be installing GPS-enabled battery-swapping stations across India.

Does the firm export? Which are major export destinations?

SU: Yes, we are working on this area and very soon, our products will be available for export in a few countries. With abundant potential in India, we are currently looking at providing all our services that will cater to every region of the country.
