An arm of Tata Motors, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., has joined hands with various charge point operators (CPOs), Chargezone, Glida, Statiq and Zeon, for the rollout of more than 10,000 additional electric vehicles charging points. The time period to achieve this is within the next 12-15 months. Thus, EV owners will have access to over 10,000 charge points by FY25.

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility will aid the said CPOs towards the installation of chargers at locations visited by its EV owners. “This MoU crucially builds on the significant existing presence of each operator in the charging ecosystem and the unique telematics insights basis more than 1.15 lakh Tata EVs on Indian roads by Tata Passenger Electric Mobility,” a statement from the firm read.

Together, Chargezone, Glida, Statiq, and Zeon boast a network of about 2,000 charging points across primary cities.

Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., stated, “EV adoption is a national imperative to address urban pollution, and convenient charging infrastructure is a key enabler for driving faster EV adoption. The need of the hour for accelerating a nationwide charging ecosystem is open collaboration, and we are delighted to announce our strategic collaboration with Chargezone, Glida, Statiq, and Zeon, to accelerate India’s journey towards e-mobility.”

This news follows the recent announcement made by Tata Power EV Charging Solutions on its partnership with Indian Oil Corporation Limited on the installation of more than 500 charge points across several IOCL retail outlet in major cities.

Currently, India is dismally below the global ratio of 1 EV charging station per 6 to 20 EVs with an estimated ratio of just 1 charging station per 135 EVs. The recent approval of the Ministry of Heavy Industries to 7,432 EV charging stations will help address this challenge.

As per the data available with Bureau of Energy Efficiency, a total of 6586 Public Charging Stations (PCS) were operational in the country as on March 21, 2023.
