Ratul Puri’s energy venture Hindustan Power, an integrated power generation company, has been awarded a Letter of Intent (LoI) from Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL) for developing a 120 MWh Standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) across three critical grid substations in Bihar.

The project, awarded under Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB), will be implemented on a BOOT (Build, Own, Operate, Transfer) basis. The installations will be developed at Bhagalpur (40 MWh), Udakishanganj (40 MWh), and Sitamarhi (40 MWh).

The Scheduled Commissioning Date for the full capacity is set for 18 months from the Effective Date of the Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA). As part of the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s approved 500 MWh battery energy storage system project in Bihar, this initiative will not only ensure an uninterrupted and high-quality power supply but also help balance demand and supply during peak hours.

Commenting on the development, Ratul Puri, Chairman of Hindustan Power, said, “We are pleased to join hands with the Government of Bihar on this project, which aims to create a more flexible, sustainable, and consumer-centric power infrastructure in the state. This partnership reflects our commitment to technological innovation and environmental responsibility.”

Prostram Wins Bihar BESS Project At Rs 4.44L/MW

Earlier this week, Maharashtra-based energy solutions firm Prostram received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL) for a 30 MW/120 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BSPGCL), the company said in a regulatory filing.

The project is to be developed under a Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process and will operate on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model for 12 years. The project is backed by Viability Gap Funding (VGF) and is expected to be completed within 18 months from the signing of the Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA).

Prostram, which secured IPO approval earlier this year in February, will receive a rental of ₹4.44 lakh per MW per month—amounting to an annual rental of ₹15.98 crore for the 30 MW/120 MWh capacity. The storage units will be located across multiple grid sub-station sites operated by Bihar State Power Transmission Company Limited (BSPTCL).
