Delhi-based green hydrogen and solar developer firm, Uneecops Technologies Ltd is set to establish the first green hydrogen microgrid project in the Leh region for a hydropower firm based in India. Uneecops will aid in the engineering, procurement & construction (EPC) for setting up a green hydrogen-based fuel cell microgrid of 25kW for the hydro-power firm’s guest house at Power Station, Alchi, Leh. The electricity generation will be 200 units per day from the fuel cell (14 KG of hydrogen per day).

The project will be developed at an extremely high altitude of 3200 feet, which the firm says makes it the world’s first project of its kind.

The project will be executed by Uneecops Technologies, which will be responsible for the design, procurement, and construction of the microgrid. The project will be developed using the latest technology and equipment to ensure the highest levels of efficiency and reliability, as per the firm, which will provide three years of operations & maintenance service that will ensure the smooth and uninterrupted operation of the microgrid, making it a sustainable and cost-effective solution for the major hydro-power company’s guest house. The project aims to demonstrate the viability of green hydrogen-based fuel cells as a reliable source of energy for remote and off-grid locations. The hydro-power firm’s guest house at power station, Alchi, Leh is an ideal location for this pilot project as it is situated in one of the most challenging terrains in India, where the availability of reliable power supply is a significant challenge.

Uneecops informs that this project is a significant milestone for Uneecops Technologies, as it demonstrates its ability to provide reliable, sustainable, and cost-effective energy solutions to remote and off-grid locations.

“We are thrilled to be the first company in India to set up the first green hydrogen microgrid project in Leh Region and are excited to showcase our green hydrogen-based fuel cell technology at one of the most challenging locations in India. We at Uneecops Technologies are very proud to be at the forefront of this revolutionary technology,” said Piyush Jain, Chairman, Uneecops Technologies.

“We believe that this project will be a gamechanger in the field of sustainable energy solutions and will help us demonstrate the viability of green hydrogen-based fuel cells as a reliable source of energy. This project is a step towards sustainable development in the region and aligns with the country’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting renewable energy.” said Anurag Jain, Director.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2023 and will provide a reliable source of power to the hydro-power company’s guest house at Power Station, Alchi, Leh.

Several initiatives have been taken to give an impetus to green hydrogen in Leh. Last year, state-owned National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) had announced the signing of two Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) for the establishment of ‘Pilot Green Hydrogen Technologies’ in Leh and Kargil districts of Ladakh. This was followed by Amara Raja revealing that it would establish a green hydrogen fueling facility in Leh.
