REMCL (Renewable Energy Management Company) had declared the results for a 1000 MW renewable energy project. Of the 1000 MW capacity, 900 MW has been tendered. Energy conglomerate NTPC has announced that its arm NTPC Renewable Energy (NTPC-REL) has won a 500 MW renewable energy round-the-clock (RE-RTC) project of the tendered capacity. Sprng Akshya Urja Pvt Ltd has bagged 100 MW of this, while Project Nine Renewable Power Pvt Ltd has won 300 MW.

NTPC-REL is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL)- a subsidiary of NTPC Limited.

The project has been bagged through a competitive bidding process, where a cumulative of 900 MW RE-RTC was put up for bidding. A power purchase agreement (PPA) will be entered into between the Indian Railways and NTPC-REL for 25 years.

The said project is a fusion of both solar and wind power, that would provide round-the-clock green energy to REMCL- a joint venture between the Ministry of Railways and RITES Ltd. The project would also enable the railways to follow the path of decarbonisation.

Presently, the operational capacity of NTPC Group stands at 3.2 GW. With the said project added to its kitty, the capacity under pipeline will cross 20 GW.

Earlier, a provider of solar tracker and software solutions, Nextracker, announced the delivery of its solar trackers to NTPC Renewable Energy Limited’s 1.255 GW solar PV project in Khavda Renewable Energy Park, Gujarat.

More recently, Renewable energy solutions provider Suzlon Group has announced a new order win for the development of a 50.4 MW wind power project for Sembcorp’s renewables subsidiary Green Infra Wind Energy Limited. The order is part of the bid won from Railway Energy Management Company Limited (REMCL) by Sembcorp. The project will help meet the energy needs of railways for traction in the state of Maharashtra.

REMCL is the nodal agency aimed at the planning, tendering / bid processing and implementation of renewable energy projects on behalf of the Indian Railways. In order to meet the specific and continuous power requirements of Railways, REMCL had also issued a tender for the procurement of 1000 MW renewable Power in RTC (Round The Clock) mode. More than 1100 MUs of green power have been procured during FY 2022-23 (upto Feb’2023) by REMCL.
