Mumbai-based RenewSys is a global manufacturer of solar PV modules, PV cells, PV encapsulants – EVA, POE, EPE PV backsheets. The firm’s Patalganga solar module manufacturing plant is located about an hour away from the JNPT port in Maharashtra and is home to large format PV modules – mono-facial and bi-facial, glass-glass, and glass – transparent backsheet ranges. Avinash Hiranandani, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, RenewSys, offers an insight into the offerings and launches from the firm.

Please tell us about your newest launch.

We have launched our TOPCon range, wherein we have introduced glass and transparent back sheets as well as glass-to-glass solar panels. In backsheets, we have introduced a transparent backsheet along with POE (Polyolefin Elastomer) and EPE (Ethyl Vinyl Acetate) specially designed for our n-type TOPCon solar panels.

Glass-to-glass panels have been there for a long time and are required for the utility-scale applications in India. But glass with a backsheet, as well as glass with a transparent backsheet are here to stay because of the weight of the panels and also because they have a similar performance as glass to glass.

What are the capacities that you are looking at in near future?

Currently, we have about 1 gigawatt facility at our Patalganga plant, and we will continue to add capacity. We will be doubling it by the next six months and further double our capacity to 4 gigawatts by the next one and a half years. So, the capacity continues to grow in our module business. In our encapsulants business and in POE, we will double our capacity to eleven to twelve gigawatts.

Take us through your floating solar projects and new introduction from your firm in this segment.

For floating solar, we have supplied our backsheets, specially designed fluoro backsheets to many projects.

For the floating solar segment, we have an offering of a special kind of backsheet that has very low moisture vapour transmission ratio. Basically, it means that no water can percolate inside even though the panel is very close to the water. Our special PVDF-based backsheet has proven to be a very popular product for our floating solar market. If you’re looking for a glass and backsheet solar panel for floating solar application, you should reach out to us!
