Jammu Smart City Adds 200 Electric Buses By Tata Motors

Recently, Jammu Smart City Ltd. announced that 200 electric buses tender had been awarded to India’s largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles, Tata Motors. According to Tata Motors, Jammu Smart City Ltd. launched the tender for Jammu and Srinagar.

To deploy electric buses in the twin capital cities of Jammu and Kashmir, Tata Motors has formed a strategic partnership. The partnership is a component of a project by the J&K Housing and Urban Development Department to create a network of public transportation for Jammu and Srinagar that is environmentally, socially, and economically viable.

According to Tata Motors, as part of Jammu & Kashmir’s initiative for ecologically friendly public transportation, 150 units of 9-meter and 50 units of 12-meter Starbus electric buses will be provided. The electric buses will be provided, run, and maintained by Tata Motors for 12 years as part of the contract.

According to the company, Tata Motors has operated 40 electric buses in Jammu and Kashmir since 2019 in addition to a total of 715 electric buses in various Indian cities that have cumulatively traveled more than 40 million kilometers with an uptime of over 95%.

Tata Motors has already been given orders for 1,500 electric buses by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), 1,180 electric buses by the West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC), and 921 electric buses by the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) as part of a Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL) tender.

Earlier, Tata Motors signed an agreement with Evera, one of the earliest EV-only – ride-hailing platforms in the Delhi NCR region, for delivering 2,000 XPRES T electric vehicles. These vehicles were an addition to the already existing fleet of Tata Motors’ EVs present with the aggregator.
