Voltalia Signs 15-Year Solar Power Supply Contract with Renault

French renewable energy providing firm, Voltalia, and French automobile manufacturer Renault have entered into a 15-year solar power supply agreement. The agreement will facilitate Renault to make the transition to cleaner energy.

350 megawatts of total capacity, or roughly 500-gigawatt hours of annual production, are covered by the deal. This 15-year commitment is the first-of-its-kind that France has made in terms of power. Renault Group, which has been devoted to the energy transition for more than ten years, has declared its determination to hasten the decarbonization of its French facilities.

The agreement with Voltalia will allow Renault Group to meet all of the sustainable electricity needs of the ElectriCity hub, Europe’s largest and most competitive electric vehicle production facility, which aims to produce 500,000 vehicles annually by 2025, as well as up to 50% of the electricity consumption of the manufacturer’s production activities in France in 2027. This includes the electricity consumption of Renault’s Cléon plant that manufactures electrical and mechanical components. The Renault Group reaffirms its commitment to attaining net zero carbon emissions from its electricity hub facilities in France by 2025, in Europe by 2030, and globally by 2050 with the Renaulution strategic plan.

Starting in 2025, Voltalia will install 100 megawatts of photovoltaic panels at its French locations. Voltalia will gradually increase the capacity made accessible to Renault over the ensuing years, reaching a maximum of 350 megawatts by 2027.
