Construction for these projects began back in September 2021, advancing towards full capacity since March 2023. Power generation first kicked off at Vale Serrão (2.4 MW), Pinhal Novo (11.8 MW), and Alcochete (23.8 MW). The other two sites, The Oliveira de Frades (1.2 MW) and Antuzede (11.4 MW) have also begun operating. Long-term corporate Power Purchase Agreements have paved the way for the said projects that make up the cluster. These will help curb 46,685 tonnes of CO2 emissions every year. The PPAs signed encompass an agreement with Poland-based BA Glass, fourth largest glass packaging producer in the world.

“We are delighted to announce the full capacity of our Garrido cluster. Portugal is a pioneer in Europe, with a significant share of renewable energies in its energy mix. I thank all the teams for successfully delivering this cluster,” stated Sébastien Clerc, CEO of Voltalia.

Recently, The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector body of the World Bank and Voltalia, signed an agreement to arrange financing for the Dwanga Renewable Energy project at Malawi, an east African country.
