Vestas has announced two new order wins in North America for the supply of wind turbines worth 192 MW. The two orders have been received from projects under development in the US and Mexico.

The first is a 162 MW order for a project in the US. Demonstrating the firms’ product flexibility optimising all site needs, and including previously purchased PTC components, the full project consists of a mix of V110-2.0 MW and V136-4.2 MW wind turbines delivered in various operating modes.

The order includes supply and commissioning of the turbines as well as a 10-year service agreement, designed to ensure optimised performance for the lifetime of the project. Turbine delivery will begin in the second quarter of 2020 with commissioning scheduled for the third quarter of 2020.

The second is a 30 MW order for a project in Mexico. The contract includes the supply and installation of 15 V120-2.0 MW wind turbines as well as an Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement for the operation and maintenance of the wind park over the next 20 years.

“This order exemplifies the reliability of Vestas’ portfolio and our ability to ensure optimsed performance for the lifetime of the project”, said Agustín Sánchez-Tembleque, General Manager of Vestas México.

Turbine delivery is expected by the fourth quarter of 2020 whilst commissioning is planned by the second quarter of 2021.

The firm pioneered the Mexican wind energy market in 1994 when it erected the country’s first commercial wind turbine. Since then, it has accumulated over 2.3 GW of installed capacity or under construction in Mexico.

Recently, the firm has been reporting multiple orders the latest of which was for the supply and installation of wind turbines worth 310 MW for projects in the US and China. In total, the group received four orders with three received for projects in China worth 161 MW and one project in the US worth 149 MW.

Earlier, the firm had also announced that it has been awarded an order for 252 MW for three wind energy projects in Russia from WEDF (Wind Energy Development Fund), a joint investment fund created on a parity basis by PJSC Fortum and JSC RUSNANO. Located in the Kalmykiya and the Rostov region, the projects will comprise of 60 (V126-4.2 MW) wind turbines.
