Vestas Bags 1,220 MW Capacity Orders for Wind Turbines from Europe & US

Vestas, a Denmark-based wind turbine manufacturing firm, has entered into a series of new contracts to supply 1,220 MW of onshore and offshore wind turbines cumulatively to projects located in Europe and the United States.

Eyeing the European Market

Vestas is set to take over the European market, where it has bagged the majority of projects.

A major contract awarded to Vestas is for capacity worth 960 MW for EnBW’s He Dreiht offshore wind farm in the German North Sea. Under the agreement, the Danish firm will be responsible for the delivery of 64 V236-15.0MW wind turbines. The installation will kickstart in the second quarter of 2025. The commissioning is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025.

Among the onshore projects won by Vestas are those awarded by Burgerwind Beuchte. The firm has ordered ten V162-6.2MW wind turbines for a capacity of 62 MW. This is for the Beuchte wind farm in Lower Saxony, Germany. The delivery of the wind turbines will begin from the second quarter of 2024 with commissioning scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of the said year.

Along with this, Vestas also bagged an order for a prototype of Burgerwindpark’s V162-7.2MW wind turbine for the Janneby wind farm in Schleswig-Holstein. This agreement paves the path for the supply, delivery and commissioning of the with delivery slated for the first quarter of 2024 and commissioning in the second quarter of the year.

Vestas has also set sights on the Italian market, where it has has been contracted for the supply of 18 V150-4.2MW wind turbines. The project, which sees a capacity of 76 MW, is yet to be disclosed. The delivery for the project is expected in the first quarter of 2024 and commissioning is scheduled for later in the year.

The wind turbine manufacturer will also supply Sanko Holding with four V162-6.2MW wind turbines for the Akyel wind farm in Karaman, Turkey. The first half of 2024 will see the delivery with commissioning in the fourth quarter of the same year.

US Order

In the US, Vestas has won a 90 MW order. The Denmark-based firm will look after the repowering of a wind project here. The name has not been disclosed as yet. The firm will install 20 V150-4.5 MW wind turbines. It will be responsible for the delivery of the turbine in the second quarter of 2024. Commissioning is expected in the fourth quarter of the same year.

The European and US markets have been proactively pushing renewable energy initiatives. In the US, the Inflation Reduction Act has been propelling renewable energy projects, in Europe, the Net Zero Industry Act in Europe is also pushing firms in the region to adopt clean and green energy.

A few months back, Vestas received two separate orders for the supply of its turbines for a combined capacity of 109 MW to Argentina and Turkey. In April, the firm secured a 238 MW order from Hibiki Wind Energy for the Kitakyushu-Hibikinada Offshore Wind Farm Project in Japan.

Vestas designs, manufactures, installs, and services onshore and offshore wind turbines across the globe, and with more than 166 GW of wind turbines in 88 countries. It claims to have supplied highest capacity in the world.
