Toll booths in India will soon run on solar power. Minister for road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari recently at an event said that the government is planning to make all toll booths in the country solar powered and operators will be informed to install solar panels on toll booths to meet their daily needs. He also added that that his ministry is planning to make half of the road toll collections digital by March this year.

This move is among the key initiatives taken by the Min of Road Transport & Highways for the New Year which is organizing 28th Road Safety Week from 9th to 15th January 2017 with the objective of spreading awareness about the issue. The week will open with a Road Safety Walk from India Gate in the capital on 9th January.
