SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN Limited has joined hands by way of an MoU with Ocean Sun, Norway, which is a specialist in floating solar. The agreement will pave the way for a partnership between the two firms in the field of new technologies in green and clean energy sector. The collaboration comes under the aegis of India-Norway Task Force for Energy.

As per the terms of the MoU, SGEL shall develop and finance a pilot membrane based floating solar project (about 2 MW) at a suitable location anywhere in India. For the said project, patented technological support shall be provided by Ocean Sun, Norway. The MoU will facilitate  technology transfer and cooperation between the two countries. Once the pilot project succeeds, the two firms, SGEL and Ocean Sun, may look at the expansion of this technology on large scale along the vast coastline in the southern part of India.

Keppel Energy Nexus Pte Ltd (Keppel), a wholly owned subsidiary of Keppel Infrastructure piloted Singapore’s first membrane-based nearshore floating solar photovoltaic (PV) system at Jurong Island, Singapore. The PV system was designed based Ocean Sun’s technology to exploit the potential of solar energy when the waves are stronger the sea conditions are rougher in a nearshore marine environment. To make this possible, solar panels are added directly onto large circular reinforced membranes that are guarded by a high-density polyethylene pipe structure around the membrane.

One among the most significant solar projects that SJVN has in its portfolio, is a 90 MW Omkareshwar floating solar project located in Madhya Pradesh.
