Priced at Rs 15,000, Twin Solar Cooking Top To Mark Debut at India Energy Week IOC Chairman Presents 500 Solar-Powered Indoor Cooking Systems to Sri Lanka

Last year, the Indian Oil Company unveiled Surya Nutan, a solar cooking system developed indigenously. The three models introduced were priced in the range of Rs 12,000 and Rs 23,000, kitchen connected and rechargeable. Now, the CPSU has gone a step ahead and introduced a twin cooktop model.

Said to be priced at around Rs 15,000, the twin cooktop model makes room for flexibility as it can function on both solar as well as auxiliary sources of energy at the same time. The model will be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at India Energy Week being held at Bengaluru from 6 to 8 February. This will mark its commercial rollout. As per the ministry, the twin cooktop model can help with frying, baking and boiling.

As per a statement, the cooking system has been developed following a series of lab tests and intensive research and development at IOC’s R&D centre in Faridabad.

It is being held that once the solar cooking system reaches 30 million households by 2025-26, it would augment savings of more than Rs 1 lakh crore in LPG. What’s more, it would promise forex savings of Rs 50,000 Cr. The CO2 emissions would witness a reduction by 50 million tonnes.

The patented cooktop, which will be marketed and produced on a large level, has been shared with a list of vendors to facilitate manufacturing, marketing and after-sales service. The government is looking at curbing the price to under Rs 10,000 by way of and keeping the option to pay in instalments open and consequently bringing down the price to below Rs 10,000 by scaling of quantity for the cooking system.
