Powertrac Bets on Containerised BESS, Invests ₹6 Billion in 1 GWh Facility

Gujarat-based Powertrac Group has recently invested Rs. 600 crore to establish a 1,000 MWh-per-annum containerised Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility in India. With this latest announcement, the company has joined firms such as Hoymiles and Pace Digitek, which have recently entered the containerised battery storage (BESS) space.

Divyarajsinh Zala, Managing Director (MD) of Powertrac Group, announced in a social media post that it is shifting its focus to developing a BESS facility, with a focus on LFP-based battery pack assembly and in-house BMS development and integration.
Additionally, the company also plans to add 1–5 MWh modular containerised grid-scale BESS and provide solar-plus-BESS hybrid energy solutions. This strategic expansion strengthens its commitment toward achieving a target of 1,000 MW (1 GW) of operational IPP projects by 2030.

Other Companies Entering Containiraized BESS Space

Last year, Pace Digitekexpanded from the telecom sector into the battery storage segment to build containerised battery storage solutions and plans to expand its industry footprint with a new battery energy storage facility.

Similarly, global energy solutions company Hoymileshas also pinned its hopes on its 5 MWh containerised Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to boost the reliability of variable renewable energy. The firm said its HOYDC 5 MWh containerised BESS addresses several challenges related to grid security and the reliability of green power. The HOYDC 5 MWh containerised BESS is a compact, intelligent, and highly scalable solution designed for utility-scale and commercial applications. It added that the solution is built for performance, safety, and flexibility.

Another company, Jupiter Electric Mobility (JEM), which is part of the Jupiter Group, in 2025 launched its new 10-ft and 20-ft containerised Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The first 10-ft BESS was supplied in partnership with GMMCO, a CK Birla Group company and a provider of energy solutions, to Greenlit, a Mumbai-based subsidiary of Recube that is driving decarbonisation in the events, entertainment, and hospitality sectors.
