To enable the decarbonization of power networks and produce sustainable energy, the collaboration leverages the complementary core technologies and offshore wind industry knowledge of both firms. Both high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems are covered.

The growing pipeline of offshore wind projects will be targeted for Hitachi Energy’s HVDC Light and modular HVAC grid technologies and solutions, as well as Petrofac’s engineering, procurement, construction, and installation capabilities for offshore platforms and offshore and onshore civil works.

Niklas Persson, Managing Director of Hitachi Energy’s Grid Integration division, said, “We are pleased to partner with Petrofac to assist satisfy the growing need for large-scale offshore wind power and supply clean renewable electricity to consumers. As thought leaders in our respective fields, our partnership will benefit our clients more and hasten the energy transition. Our HVAC and HVDC technologies are important enablers of the shift to a more secure, adaptable, and sustainable global energy system.”

Lahoud stated that “Hitachi Energy is well known for its long history of delivering innovative technology and solutions across the power grid value chain. We look forward to combining our industry-leading experience and in-depth domain knowledge to better serve our customers and supply renewable energy to millions of homes.”

A few recent Hitachi Energy HVDC offshore wind projects include Dogger Bank, the largest offshore wind farm in the world off the coast of the UK, and four DolWin and BorWin HVDC hubs that link numerous North Sea wind farms to the German power grid.

For the industry of AC offshore wind farms, Hitachi Energy is a market leader in providing grid connection solutions.
