Oriano to Set Up 70 MWp Phase I of Chhattisgarh Solar Project

Indian utility scale solar power development & EPC company Oriano has announced an order win for a major captive solar project under C&I segment in Chhattisgarh.

The total project capacity accumulates to 168 MWp and the first phase of 70 MWp will be commissioned by mid-April 2022 to be evacuated at 132 kV. Balance capacity execution has already started and targeted to be commissioned by Oct 2022.

The project is based on captive capex open access mechanism and is going to be one of the largest captive solar projects in India, the company claims. Oriano is executing the project with a turnkey scope of development, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and operation & maintenance for 5 years.

Sudeep Chakraborty said that conglomerate HIRA group is dedicated towards sustainability and therefore planning for solar projects started 2 years back. After analyzing OPEX & CAPEX models, it was further decided to go on CAPEX mode due to its commercial advantage.

Lokendra Singh, Co-Founder & Director, Oriano said, “They are thrilled with this bold initiative of Hira Group towards making their Company as Carbon Neutral in a Steel Industry Vertical and is going to inspire a lot many other industries. We are thankful for choosing Oriano as their Development & EPC Partner for the project.”

Founded in 2015, the Mumbai-based company claims to have converted over 1200 acres of vacant land into solar farms, generating enough electricity to serve 659,000 Indian households, creating 4,400+ construction jobs and off-setting 21 million (MT) of annual carbon dioxide emissions, which is said to be equivalent to planting 11 million trees. It has set up solar projects in states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, and Rajasthan.

Oriano ranked ninth among top solar contractors in the country as per India Renewable Map June 2020, a research report released by consultancy and knowledge services provider Bridge to India. The company’s development & EPC portfolio is comprised of 700+ MWp projects at present, which it aims to increase to 1+ GW by the end of 2022.
