NTPC Increases Solar Output, Installs 69.5 GW Capacity

Highlights :

  • With the commissioning of the 56 MW Kawas Solar PV Project at NTPC Kawas, Gujarat, on August 15, 2022, NTPC Limited, India’s largest integrated energy firm, reached 69454 MW of group installed and commercial capacity.
  • By installing renewable energy projects in its current stations as well as constructing new green field RE projects, NTPC is constantly reducing its carbon footprint and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
NTPC Increases Solar Output, Installs 69.5 GW Capacity Energy conglomerate NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) has issued a tender for the power evacuation Infrastructure package under development of 4750 MW solar park at Khavda, Gujarat.

With the commissioning of the 56 MW Kawas Solar PV Project at NTPC Kawas, Gujarat, on August 15, 2022, NTPC Limited reached 69454 MW (69.5 GW Capacity) of group installed and commercial capacity.

By installing renewable energy projects in its current stations as well as constructing new green field RE projects, NTPC is constantly reducing its carbon footprint and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. The company has installed about 9,50,000 PV modules at its various stations, out of which 242 Mega Watt have been put into service, to create 262 MW of floating solar over more than 1300 acres of its reservoir area.

Among these are the 100 MW floating solar farm at Ramagundam, Telangana, the 92 MW plant in Kayamkulam, Kerala, and the 25 MW plants in Simhadri, Andhra Pradesh, and Kawas, Gujarat.

The first major energy company in the world to announce its Energy Compact objectives is NTPC. In recent times, it has worked with Niti Aayog to accomplish the “net zero” goals. By 2032, the NTPC Group hopes to generate 60 GW of RE. NTPC currently has 2.3 GW of operational renewable capacity, while another 3.9 GW is being implemented and put into operation. The largest power producer in India, NTPC, is now in the process of awarding contracts for 4.9 GW of renewable energy capacity.

Recently, NTPC’s 56 MW Kawas Solar PV Project in Gujarat is now fully functional. Kawas Solar is made up of 23 MW of floating and 33 MW of ground-mounted components. The facility will be added to the current NTPC Kawas Gas-based power station. The CPSU Scheme Phase II Tranche I of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy provided funding for the project. Vikram Solar is utilising the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy’s EPC model.
