NHPC To Develop 10 GW RE Projects In Rajasthan

NHPC To Develop 10 GW RE Projects In Rajasthan THDC Issues EoI for Empanelment of Consultants for Land Acquisition for 2 GW RE Parks

State-owned National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd (NHPC) has announced that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between its subsidiary and the state government of Rajasthan for the development of renewable energy parks in the state. As per the details, the total capacity of the projects will come to about 10 gigawatts (GW).

The central PSU said in a filing before stock exchanges, that ultra mega renewable energy power parks (UMREPP) will be developed by NHPC Renewable Energy Limited (NHPC REL) which is the wholly-owned subsidiary of NHPC.

NHPC stated, “The memorandum provides a framework under which parties may collaborate and cooperate for setting up of 10 GW RE Parks (UMREPP)/ projects at sites identified inside Rajasthan, by optimum utilization of resources and knowledge base of both parties.”

NHPC has also held in the disclosure before the exchanges that the green energy projects will be developed either on EPC or developer mode by NHPC REL.

The March of Indian PSUs

Earlier in July, the Rajasthan government also inked a pact with a subsidiary of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Ltd for the development of 10 GW ultra mega renewable energy power parks.

As per the agreement, NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NREL), will be developing the RE projects in Rajasthan. The central PSU has set a target of 60 GW renewable energy capacities by 2032. It also held that in about 2 years of its formation especially for the green energy projects, the subsidiary has won 4 GW renewable energy awards through tenders.

Rajasthan is a key state having immense solar and wind resources that can help India to achieve its 2070 zero emission target. As far as solar energy potential of the state is concerned, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy says that Rajasthan could produce about 142 GW of electricity using the sun. With regards to wind energy, the state has a potential of 18,770 MW when wind turbines are erected at a height of 100 meters.
