Mercedes-Benz announces six new EQ EV Launches by 2022

Mercedes-Benz is running towards the complete Electrification of its products, targeting to achieve the “Ambition 2039” and zero CO₂ emission. The firm is integrating its Mercedes-EQ models into series production in its existing plants.

The six launches from different Mercedes-Benz plants include:

The first electric luxury sedan EQS production from Mercedes-Benz will start in the first half of 2021 in Factory 56 at the Sindelfingen plant, Germany.

However, the company is looking forward to launching two fully-electric compact SUVs in the EQA and EQB in 2021. While the first all-electric compact SUV EQA will be launched on 20th January 2021, the second all-electric compact SUV EQB production launch will have to wait for a few months. Both the EQ models will be produced at the Beijing plant later on.

Besides, the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen will begin production of the EQE business sedan in the second half of 2021. However, the EQE complements the all‑electric portfolio of the two plants hence, another will be the Beijing plant to produce a total of four Mercedes-EQ models for the local market.

The firm is also preparing for production of the EQE SUV and EQS SUV in 2022 at the Mercedes-Benz Tuscaloosa plant (USA), which will be produced in the future on the same line as SUVs with standard and plug-in hybrid drives.

As Mercedes-Benz announced, there will be the launch of a total of eight Mercedes-EQ electric vehicles at seven locations on three continents. The company has produced 20 plug-in hybrid models till now, which will be vital in a purely electric product portfolio.

Speaking of these electrifying steps towards CO₂ neutrality, the Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz AG, Production and Supply Chain, Jörg Burzer, said, “The Mercedes-Benz production network is global, digital and flexible, and ready for the upcoming electric offensive. We are now beginning a real Mercedes-EQ fireworks display. Six electric product launches by 2022 underscore the strength and competence of our Mercedes-Benz production sites worldwide. Local production of highly efficient battery systems plays a central role in the Mercedes-Benz strategy – coupled with a comprehensive sustainability concept that spans the entire life cycle of the battery all the way to recycling.”

Also, the battery production of all the Mercedes EQ models will start in 2022 at their respective plant locations.

“With its ‘Electric First’ strategy, Mercedes-Benz is consistently on the path to CO₂ neutrality and is investing heavily in transformation. Our vehicle portfolio becomes electric and thus also our global production network with vehicle and battery factories. We are taking a comprehensive approach, ranging from research and development to production, and also including strategic cooperation”, said Markus Schäfer, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG.
