L&T Gets EPC Contract for 90 MW Floating Solar in Omkareshwar, MP

India’s leading engineering player – Larsen and Toubro (L&T) – has announced that the power transmission & distribution business of L&T Construction has secured multiple EPC orders in India and overseas. The key catch has been a contract for the development of a floating solar project in Madhya Pradesh.

L&T held that the renewables arm of the business has received an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) order to establish a 90 MW floating solar PV plant at the Omkareshwar dam reservoir in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh.

L&T held that the dam reservoir is a large water body without much change in the water level throughout the year. Also, this water body is emerging as one of the largest floating solar parks in the world.

In October, Saur Energy reported that the tender for Omkareshwar Dam Reservoir had been oversubscribed. The second phase tender was for the development of 300 MW. The cumulative capacity up for development was 600 MW but the oversubscription was for 700 MW.

The first phase of the auction allocated 300 MW with Amp Energy, NHDC and SJVN all winning 100 MW each.

NTPC Renewable Energy, SJVN Green Energy, and Hinduja Renewables were declared winners in Rewa Ultra Mega Solar’s (RUMSL) auction for the 300 MW.

The floating solar project is being developed by Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Ltd (RUMSL), a joint venture between SECI and MUVN.

Other projects in L&T’s portfolio

Talking about more orders, L&T said that in western Uttar Pradesh, the company will undertake works for the development of distribution infrastructure under the revamped reforms-linked distribution scheme. The scope of this loss reduction package includes asset mapping using Geospatial Information System (GIS).

In the overseas market, the business has received an order for establishing 400kV & 225kV transmission lines in North Africa. It has also won an order for building a 132kV substation in the coastal town of Bintulu in Sarawak, Malaysia.
