Green Car Parking Tariff

How more would a country contribute towards a greener future?

Now, at the London’s Square Mile parking lot, drivers will have to pay a parking tariff based on car’s emissions performance.

The green smart parking system has been installed by London based parking technology specialist, RingGo.

Further, the parking programs set by the company have marked GBP 6.8 an hour for oldest and the most polluting vehicles and GBP 4 for vehicles qualifying for low emissions.

Besides emissions of the car, the parking system is the first in London to use vehicles’ fuel type as one of the factors to determine parking tariff.

Aiming at reducing air pollution, petrol vehicles registered after 2005 and diesel vehicles registered after 2015 be charged GBP 5.2 per hour.

Rest of the vehicles with high amount of emissions will be charged GBP 6.8 per hour.

The parking technology also boosts of its cashless transactions system at all the parking areas in the City of London.

Chairman, Planning and Transportation Committee, City of London Corporation, Chris Hayward said, “The aim was to incentivize the use of cleaner vehicles. We have seen other areas of London penalize worst offenders such as diesel cars. We are taking this one step further by not only applying punitive measures for these worst offenders but by supporting and encouraging motorists to consider other modes of transport and switch to cleaner vehicles in the future. Ninety-eight per cent of all parking in the City is paid for by mobile phone so RingGo’s Emissions Based Parking is a great way of reminding motorists of the impact of their journey each and every time they travel.”
