Hitachi Astemo Builds 3-MW Solar Power Plant in Maharashtra

Hitachi Astemo Builds 3-MW Solar Power Plant in Maharashtra

Japanese automaker Hitachi Astemo has announced that it has installed a ground mounted solar power plant of 3-MW at its manufacturing plant in Jalgaon, Maharashtra. The company said that the solar power plant is built in an area of 43301 sq meters employing 7128 ground mounted solar panels and 10 inverters.

The 3-MW Jalgaon solar plant is the first phase by Hitachi Astemo. The company will commission an additional 1.5 MW solar power plant by March 2023.

Hitachi Astemo is a joint venture between Hitachi and Honda Motor. At its Jalgaon plant, the company manufactures brake systems for 3-wheeler and 4-wheelers along with foundry operations.

This is the first Solar Power Plant of Hitachi Astemo in India. Hitachi said that this embarks a new beginning in the energy sector and a step towards building a sustainable environment. The solar projects are to help fulfil the Prime Minister’s vision of making India carbon neutral by 2070 and also achieve Hitachi’s mission of becoming carbon neutral by 2050.

Hitachi Astemo held in its official statement that the plant will eliminate close to 4000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions or equal to planting about 150,000 trees each year and will support in reducing electricity consumption charges as well.

Tokyo – headquartered Hitachi Astemo is a new technology company with ambitious growth and environmental goals that entered the automotive market in 2021 is dedicated to the development, manufacture, sale, and service for automotive and transportation components, as well as industrial machinery and systems.

Multiple renewable energy projects are coming up in Jalgaon district. In April, National Power Thermal Corporation (NTPC) and Maharashtra State Power Generation Co (MAHAGENCO) agreed to form a joint venture to generate 2500 MW of green power in different parts of Maharashtra including Jalgaon district. The irrigation department of the state has also planned a 7.5 MW canal top solar plant in Waghur project of Jalgaon.
