Leading renewable energy player in Estonia and the Baltic countries, Enefit Green has said that a final investment decision has been taken by the company on 255 MW Sopi-Tootsi wind farm in Estonia and 80 MW Kelme I wind farm in Lithuania.

Enefit Green has decided that in the coming two years, the firm will invest about EUR 450 million in the two separate wind farms. The Sopi-Tootsi wind project will attract an investment of EUR 305 million and Kelme I will have an investment of EUR 145 million.

The official statement of Enefit Green held that it is presently building four wind farms and three solar parks in Lithuania, Estonia, Poland and Finland having a cumulative capacity of 258 MW. The firm further added that the two wind farms totalling a capacity of 335 MW were part of its previously presented investment plan. The investments aim to quadruple the electricity production capacity of Enefit Green to the level of 1,900 MW by the end of 2026. Previous investments made into these projects total 77 million euros.

The Wind Energy Projects

The Sopi-Tootsi wind farm will employ 38 wind turbines and it is expected to be the largest wind facility in the Baltic States. The said farm will be established in North Pärnu County of  Estonia. According to reports, Enefit Green may also develop a 63 MW solar power project in its vicinity. The final investment decision for the solar park is yet to be taken by the company.

Long-term power purchase and sale agreements have already been realised by Enefit Green to finance the construction of the two wind farms, which will be operationalised in 2024.

Aavo Kärmas, Chairman, Management Board, Enefit Green, stated,  “Sopi-Tootsi Wind Farm will be the most modern and powerful renewable energy production area in Estonia and the Baltic States, which will nearly double the current amount of wind energy produced in Estonia. The output of the farm will cover 8.5 per cent of the entire country’s electricity consumption and 40% of the electricity needs of household consumers.”

The firm claims to be one of the leading diversified renewable energy producers in the Baltic Sea area that owns multiple wind, solar and hydroelectric farms in the region.

As of the end of 2021, the company had a total installed electricity production capacity of 457 MW and a total installed heat production capacity of 81 MW.
