Poland’s PGE & Denmark’s Ørsted Select Contractor For Baltica Wind Farm Offshore Wind farm

Polska Grupa Energetyczna, Polish utility, and Ørsted, Danish RE player, have selected a consortium of Ramboll Polska and Projmors Maritime Construction Design Office as contractors in order to prepare the construction of the 2.5 GW Baltica 2 and 3 offshore wind farms in Poland. The consortium represents a blend of global and local players.

The selected contractor will prepare design documentation for foundations, turbines, internal cables and offshore power stations. The obligation also includes obtaining permits for the maritime portion of the offshore wind project. The assigned work should be completed by the third quarter of next year.

Soren Westergaard Jensen, Project Director in Baltica Offshore Wind Farm for Ørsted, said “Strengthening the competences of the Polish industry as part of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm project is also a practical implementation of the commitment we have made as a foreign investor by signing the Sector Deal for the development of offshore wind energy in Poland.”

The Mega RE Project in Polish Waters

In early 2021, PGE and Ørsted announced that they have signed a preliminary agreement describing the framework for cooperation in the acquisition of 50% of shares by the Danish group in two offshore wind farm projects in the Polish waters. The agreement is also for the implementation of these projects that have a capacity of up to 2.5 GW.

PGE Baltica, which is a special purpose vehicle (SPV) of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, is responsible for developing the three offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea.

As per the official statement of the companies, the Baltica offshore wind project is divided into two different phases. The 1 GW Baltica 3 phase is scheduled to go online in 2026. Similarly, the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 phase will be commissioned in 2027.

Baltica-1 Wind Power Plant is planned for a capacity of up to 900 MW. Baltica-2 will have a capacity of 1,498 MW. And Baltica-3 will be erected for 1,045 MW.
