An envoy consisting the Danish royal family along with Danish firms will be visiting Tamil Nadu for discussions on green energy. The royal representatives will include the Crown Prince of Denmark Fredrik Andre Henrik Christian and Crown Princess Mar Elizabeth.

Tamil Nadu has been a primary site for investments by Denmark-based firms. A string of Danish firms in the energy sector and the global supply chain for the wind industry dominate Tamil Nadu. During the visit, green transition, energy transition, and renewables will form the core of the discussion. The visit is scheduled from February 26 to March 2, 2023, where the Danish royal envoy will hold discussions with External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar.

Among the major initiatives between Denmark and India on wind energy include a potential offshore wind project in the Gulf of Mannar. In order to augment offshore wind projects, a knowledge nerve centre known as the Centre of Excellence for Offshore Wind and Renewable Energy has also been established as a result of cooperation between the two countries. As part of this, India’s Ministry of New & Renewable Energy and Denmark’s Danish Energy Agency (DEA) have been working together closely to make the environment for offshore wind farms conducive in India. Recently, DEA and MNRE have published an offshore wind plan for 15 locations in India based on Denmark’s approach to maritime spatial planning for offshore wind. The plan published takes a look at 14 zones that have been selected off the Tamil Nadu and one off the coast of Gujarat.

Another initiative that enhances energy cooperation between India and Denmark is the Green Strategic Partnership, which focuses on green growth and creation of jobs.
