Canada’s leading energy players Boralex, Energir and Hydro-Quebec have come together for the development of three wind power projects with a combined capacity of 1200 MW, in Quebec province.

The 400 MW Des Neiges Wind Farm – South will come up in the RCM of La Cote-de-Beaupre. Then 400MW Des Neiges Wind Farm – Charlevoix will be developed in the RCM of Charlevoix. Then there will be 400MW Des Neiges Wind Farm – West, in the RCM of La Cote-de-Beaupre. The official statement says that the wind projects are expected to generate significant economic spinoffs for Quebec as the total investments for the three projects could reach $3 billion.

The renewable power generated from the wind farms will be purchased by Hydro-Quebec. The companies will sign three power purchase agreements (PPAs). This will help the distribution firm to supply electricity to various markets. All parties will participate in the wind projects equally through their affiliated firms.

The companies have also collaborated with the indigenous communities living in the region to design and execute the project. They said that many deliberations have taken place with the communities and it will continue all along the development of the projects.

Patrick Decostre, President and Chief Executive Officer, Boralex, said, “At Boralex, we have been developing and operating renewable energy power facilities in Quebec and abroad for more than 30 years. We are pleased to share our expertise and know-how to promote Quebec’s resources for the benefit of our economy and the energy transition.”

Decostre added, “This agreement represents both the recognition of wind power as an essential source in Quebec’s energy mix and a vote of confidence for our team who, in collaboration with Energir for more than 15 years, has made wind power development on the Seigneurie de Beaupre territory successful.”

Boralex and Energir are already developing and operating Seigneurie de Beaupré wind farms of 364 MW for 15 years. The upcoming three wind farms will be close to this facility.

As per the companies, field studies and environmental impact studies are underway. Some preliminary engineering work is also carried out to specify the wind project configurations. Also, sessions of public information and consultation are being carried out and will continue with local stakeholders.
