Austria’s Windkraft Simonsfeld to Build 142 MW Wind Park in Romania

Austria’s Windkraft Simonsfeld to Build 142 MW Wind Park in Romania Independent Power Provider DNV has been picked by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) to help with the development of an offshore power grid plan.

Austrian renewable energy player Windkraft Simonsfeld will be investing EUR 150 million in its Sfânta Elena wind energy project. The renewable energy project is located in the Caraş-Severin County in the southwest region of Romania. The Austrian company plans to complete the 142-MW facility next year.

In a key development, Windkraft Simonsfeld received approval of the technical terms from Transelectrica – Romania’s transmission system operator – to connect the Sfânta Elena wind energy project to the grid system.

According to reports, the renewable energy project in the Caraş-Severin County in Banat will have the energy generation capacity of 142 MW and it will attract an investment of EUR 150 million. Windkraft Simonsfeld is mulling to complete the construction of the project in 2023 itself. The wind energy project will see the installation of 22 turbines.

Line of Projects

Windkraft Simonsfeld will be developing another wind energy plant in Banat. Windpark Banat RO which is a subsidiary of Windkraft Simonsfeld has got the land rights to develop a wind energy park in the same county in Romania’s southwest. This lies near the border with Serbia.

The renewable firm said that it has other wind and solar energy projects being planned in other European countries of Austria, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia and France.

Windkraft Simonsfeld is based in Ernstbrunn and has installed 89 wind turbines in Austria with a generating capacity of more than 236 MW. It also has two installations in Bulgaria, each having a capacity of 2M W. It also runs a solar power plant in Slovakia.

The company claims that it has generated 499 million KWh of clean and green energy in 2020 that is enough to fulfil the requirements of 125,000 households. In 2021, Windkraft Simonsfeld sought to build 14 new renewable energy projects to increase the capacity by 20 per cent.
