Why Oswal Group wants to venture into solar module manufacturing?

Oswal Pumps has a legacy of around 20 years in India. We are one of the leading manufacturers of solar pumps in the country. We have supplied more than 1.5 lakh motors till now. In the last few years, we have noticed a rising demand for solar modules in the country. Noticing the market demand and the rising business of solar modules in the country, we have now planned to set up a solar module manufacturing plant, starting with a capacity of 200 MW.

Do you plan to expand its capacity in the coming years?

Yes. We are starting the solar manufacturing plant at Karnal in Haryana with an initial capacity of 200 MW. We are likely to start the production in mid-November this year. We are in the trial stage now. We plan to expand its capacity up to 600 MW by March next year. We are likely to expand it further and target to have 1 GW of manufacturing capacity by the end of next year.

How can your new facility benefit operations of Oswal pumps?

For the last 2-3 years there was a supply crunch of solar modules. We were buying the modules from others. There were quality and supply chain logistic issues too. So we decided to jump onto the bandwagon and now we hope to overcome these challenges. This can help us in faster production, good supply chain and better coordination for procurement of modules so that we can sell the complete package of modules as well as solar pumps in solar irrigation projects where we have a command.

How do you plan to utilise these self-produced solar panels?

During the early stages, we plan to use the solar modules produced at our manufacturing units for our self consumption for our solar irrigation business needs. Later we plan to partner with other players in India to sell these modules in India. We have also planned to supply our solar modules in the US, European and African markets. We are hopeful that with our strong network, we will be able to make inroads in this new business vertical too.
