Agratas, Tata Group’s global battery business, today announced that a battery manufacturing facility will be built by the company in the United Kingdom. In this regard, it announced the location of the facility that will be built in Gravity Smart Campus near Bridgwater, Somerset.

According to the company, the facility will have a capacity of 40 GWh which is set to be the biggest in Britain, and will create up to 4,000 jobs with thousands more in the supply chain.

“The transformative potential of our factory campus will be realised through a collaborative approach to workforce development. We are looking forward to working with our local and regional partners to enable us to deliver bespoke education and training programmes in the region, creating local jobs for local people,” stated the company in a press release.

Tom Flack, CEO of Agratas, said, “Our multi-billion-pound investment will bring state-of-the-art technology to Somerset, helping to supercharge Britain’s transition to electric mobility whilst creating thousands of jobs in the process.

Further, as per media reports, construction of the factory will take place in stages with battery production scheduled to start in 2026. JLR and Tata Motors will be its “first customers”,  the statement from Agratas added.

In India, Tata Power Trading Company Limited agreed to a multi-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) BluSmart, an eMobility ride-hailing service and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure network provider. The PPA will allow BluSmart to source green power from TPTCL. While, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd (TPEM), a subsidiary of Tata Motors has slashed the prices of two of its EVs – Nexon.ev and Tiago.ev amid reduction in prices of EV batteries. The company said that it reduced the prices with the objective of making EVs more accessible to Indian customers.
