Ayodhya Set To Create World Record With Largest Solar Streetlight Line

Ayodhya is undergoing a transformation into a solar city, marked by the imminent completion of the world’s largest ‘solar-powered street lights line.’ The installation of 470 solar street lights is underway, covering a sprawling 10.2 km stretch from Lakshman Ghat to Guptar Ghat, extending up to Nirmali Kund.

This solar streetlight initiative is set to secure Ayodhya’s entry into the Guinness Book of World Records once again, following its previous record during Deepotsav for lighting the highest number of earthen lamps.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is personally overseeing the development in Ayodhya, with the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) having already completed approximately 70% of the solar street lights installation.

The remaining 160 solar streetlights are scheduled to be installed before January 22, when Lord Ram’s consecration happens. Currently, 310 solar lights adorn the path from Lakshman Ghat to Guptar Ghat, with ongoing efforts to install 160 solar-powered street lights covering the 1.85 km stretch between Guptar Ghat and Nirmali Kund.

The sources say that the LED-based lights operate at 4.4 watts and are operated with smart technology. Upon completion, the entire 10.2 km stretch from Lakshman Ghat to Nirmali Kund will be bathed in a radiant glow illuminating the holy city.

Smashing Saudi Record

The Yogi government aims to break the current world record held by Malham in Saudi Arabia, where 468 solar-powered lights were installed over a 9.7 km stretch in 2021. Ayodhya is poised to surpass this achievement by installing 470 solar-powered lights across a vast area of 10.2 km.

‘Solar City Ayodhya’

Recently, UPNEDA revealed that 42 parks in Ayodhya will be illuminated using solar trees of different capacities and sizes. Yogi Adityanath had recently directed the top officials of the state to fast-track the related projects in Ayodhya to transform it into a truly solar city. Solar ferries will also be introduced in the Saryu River by Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA) that will help the tourism in the city and take pilgrims on local voyages.

The focus of the UP government is on achieving sustainable tourism development in Ayodhya. Utilizing the potential of solar energy can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the holy city and offer economic advantages to the locals. This is particularly crucial due to the substantial human footprint and energy-intensive operations in Ayodhya.
