Indian solar module manufacturer–Waaree Solar has now joined the league of solar companies partnering with IPL cricket teams to boost its reach and marketing. In the latest development, Waaree Solar announced its partnership with IPL team– Delhi Capitals for the T20 season. The company announced its recent partnership on a social media post. it also shared a video with Delhi Capitals players promoting Waaree solar panels.

The new entry of Waaree Group into using TV commercials and cricket comes at a time when the Indian government has been promoting residential rooftop solar in a big way. The government recently announced the PM Surya Ghar Yojana with revised subsidies and an increased target of 1 crore new households under it. Prior to Waaree, several other Indian solar module manufacturers have tried their hands with cricket and celebrities as a new innovative means to grab more eye balls and boost marketing and presence of solar energy.

Notably, before Waaree Solar, Navitas Solar had also partnered with IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore for this season. Navitas Solar decided to establish a collaboration with Royal Challengers Bangalore as the renewable energy partner during the T20 season 2024. Waaree Solar has announced that it will be the Associate Partner of Delhi Capitals.

On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians (MI) have inked a sponsorship agreement with Goldi Solar, another solar panel manufacturer. Earlier during the Inter-Solar event at Gandhinagar, Surat-based module maker Rayzon had announced extending its partnership with Gujarat Titans. It also announced partnering with Chennai Super-Kings. Saatvik Solar on the other hand roped in Ravinder Jadeja in its marketing camps to boost its advertisement with the aid of crickets and IPL matches. Similarly, solar module maker and energy storage firm Luminous also partnered with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar as its brand ambassador. Sachin recently also inagurated the new solar module factory of Luminous at Rudrapur in Utarakhand.

With the latest addition of Waaree, there are six Indian solar module manufacturers who have invested in cricket to boost their sales and awareness of green power in India. The latest announcement of PM Surya Ghar scheme seems to have given a new force for the solar companies to reach out to the prospective residential rooftop solar companies. After the announcement, the pace of roping in crickets have escalated in the country.

Other developments at Waaree

On the production turf, Waaree Energies Limited announced signing a contract with Sprng Energy Private Limited, a Shell group company, to supply 220MW of solar PV modules. The association entails Waaree Energies Limited supplying 220MW of AHNAY Series, Bi-55 545Wp modules, to be utilized for Sprng’s project in Gujarat.

In another deal, GameChange Solar a fixed tilt and tracker solar tracking systems manufacturer has announced the signing of a contract with EPC Waaree Renewable Technologies Ltd. The company stated on its social media platform, “GameChange Solar has signed a contract with EPC Waaree Renewable Technologies Ltd to supply its Genius Tracker solar trackers for project developer ACCIONA Energía.

Recently, Waaree Solar Americas Inc. announced the appointment of Gordon Brinser as its new Chief Operating Officer. Waaree has India’s largest aggregate installed capacity of 12GW as of June 30, 2023 at its plants in Chikhli, Surat, Tumb and Nandigram in Gujarat and is a top player in the solar module export for Fiscal 2023. As of June 30, 2023, the total number of customers served by Waaree were 407 in India and 20 outside India The Company has supplied more than 6GW of solar modules and commissioned more than 1.1GW solar EPC projects.
