Volkswagen’s Aurangabad Factory Adopts 100% Renewable Electricity

By 2025, German motor vehicle manufacturer, the Volkswagen Group, hoped to have used only green energy (100% Renewable Electricity) at its Aurangabad site. Three years earlier than anticipated, the German automotive giant has already used only renewable energy at its Aurangabad production facility. In 2018, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) ordered the installation of a 980kWp rooftop solar power plant at the said facility. As a result, the solar power plant is now providing 40% of the energy needed by the manufacturing company.

Volkswagen's Aurangabad Factory Adopts 100% Renewable ElectricityMaharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd. (MSEDCL) provided this solar power plant for Volkswagen Group’s Aurangabad manufacturing location. Additionally, the Volkswagen Group’s production facility is the first auto assembly plant in Aurangabad to be recognised by MSEDCL as a Green Energy Plant.

The Aurangabad production site of the Volkswagen Group is anticipated to reduce CO2 by 48% annually as a result of this switch to renewable energy. In addition, SAVWIPL claims that as part of its “goTOzero” ambition, the business aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

The company SAVWIPL is in charge of five brands under the Volkswagen Group in India. Automobile manufacturers covered include Volkswagen, Skoda, Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini. Additionally, because of the success of the Kushaq SUV and Slavia sedan that was released as part of the India 2.0 business strategy, India recently eclipsed China as Skoda Auto’s third-largest market. Skoda Auto India celebrated in Dehradun with the rest of the world against the stunning Himalayan backdrop. In addition, the “Peak-to-Peak Drive” showcased Skoda Auto India’s achievements and its made-in-India products to a large number of automotive professionals from India and throughout the world.

Additionally, Skoda Auto India announced the arrival in India of the Skoda Kushaq Anniversary Edition SUV as well as improvements for both the Kushaq SUV and the Slavia sedan for Model Year 2023. The German automaker has raised the bar for the industry by hitting its goal of 100% green energy three years early. With the auto maker setting a precedent, more automakers may turn to renewable energy sources to curb the sector’s overall carbon footprint. (100% Renewable Electricity)

Recently, the Volkswagen Group and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (M&M) collaborated for the delivery of MEB electric components for Mahindra’s new, specifically designed electric platform, INGLO.
